PCTEL Introduces the SeeGull(R) EX High Speed Scanning Receiver for WCDMA/HSDPA and GSM Networks

PCTEL, Inc., a leader in Wireless Broadband Solutions, today introduced the SeeGull® EX, its latest generation of advanced scanning receivers. The new high speed SeeGull EX for WCDMA/HSDPA 2100 MHz and GSM 1800/900 MHz networks incorporates leading DSP (digital signal processor) technology in a platform that achieves significantly faster scanning speeds, simultaneous GSM and WCDMA/HSDPA measurements, and greater dynamic range. This unparalleled feature set makes the new SeeGull EX a crucial tool for designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex network performance and quality of service issues.

"We are pleased to be able address the needs of wireless operators, infrastructure vendors and optimization services providers with this new and improved scanning receiver," said Luis Rugeles, General Manager of the RF Solutions team within PCTEL's Broadband Technology Group. "The EX sets a new industry standard for form factor, price-performance, scanning speed and dynamic range," added Rugeles.

PCTEL's SeeGull EX will be available with newly developed concurrent Layer 3 (SIB) decoding functionality for both WCDMA/HSDPA and GSM networks, making it ideal for overlaid networks. With this advanced feature set, engineers will obtain an accurate view of the network coverage, interference, and handover environments. The SeeGull EX is easier to integrate into drive test systems and other applications than previous generations.

PCTEL will showcase the new SeeGull EX WCDMA/HSDPA/GSM scanning receiver along with its other scanning receiver products and its entire portfolio of wireless broadband solutions at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The PCTEL booth will be located at 2C71 in Hall 2.

The SeeGull EX WCDMA/HSDPA/GSM scanner complements PCTEL's existing line of SeeGull scanning receivers. It will be commercially available in April, 2007 through the leading global providers of drive test solutions and from PCTEL. The new EX platform achieves an order of magnitude improvement in scanning speeds compared to previous SeeGull scanning receivers. The SeeGull EX incorporates environmentally friendly components and processes that fully meet the RoHS requirements for reduction of hazardous substances. The SeeGull product line includes scanner solutions covering all major wireless technologies as well as solutions for indoor coverage planning. The accuracy and reliability of SeeGull measurements make this data ideal for use in RF propagation management, frequency allocation, and other cell planning applications.
